Allies Design Studio
2014 has been our most bountiful yet, filled to the brim with a record number of new clients alongside our highly valued, loyal clients.
We are beaming with pride because we have had the pleasure of working with some of the most respected and forward thinking people in their fields.
We’ve put together a small selection of what we’ve been up to this year...
Tombo is a Japanese Café and delicatessen in the heart of South Kensington, which ‘offers a new experience in modern Japanese food and the art of tea’. They approached us this year to create their three menus for the restaurant and takeaway service. Working alongside photographer Keiko Oikawa we strived to create menus that evoked the respect and dedication which has gone into the food created and the peace of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
We pride ourselves on working with independent, innovative food specialists, and relish every opportunity to collaborate with them. So when Ben Leask approached us with his vision of creating a grocery/life style store selling a great range of products which are crafted, created and cured in London we jumped at the chance to work with him! At the heart of Ben’s House is Ben, the store is a celebration of what he is passionate about; artisan producers in London.
The identity we created for Ben’s House reflects a business at the centre of the community, a bold graphic map of the streets of London framing his name at the heart of it all. The identity also allows for adaptation, the ultimate aim is to have a collection of stores all named after the passionate shopkeepers who run them.
Michael Hoppen Gallery
We are honoured to have worked with the Michael Hoppen Gallery this year, designing bespoke catalogues with images from highly acclaimed photographers who we deeply admire and respect; Bill Brandt and Akira Sato.
Dell’Ami commissioned us at the start of this year to create a distinctive visual library of their huge range of charcuterie and cheeses. Establishing first and foremost that we wanted to produce some beautiful, contemporary images that displayed the produce to its absolute best we joined forces with photographer Uli Schade and prop stylist Sania Pell.
Allies Design have immersed ourselves in The Great British Bake Off for another year, working alongside Love Productions on a comprehensive style guide for the GBBO for use on merchandise and more. Creating an illustrative style that can then be transformed into patterns, placements and typographic icons. Our aim was to embrace the happiness and joy Bake Off brings to millions of people. The resulting style guide is a celebration of the summer brand, incorporating the iconic marquee, the sweeping fields of buttercups and the infamous Bake Off catchphrases.
Our creative union with Brindisa continued in 2014, designing their legendary wholesale catalogue. Additionally we created identities for the Brindisa Food Rooms and Brindisa Tapas Kitchens.
The Great British Bake Off: Christmas
When we were asked to get into the Christmas spirit a little earlier this year for the GBBO: Christmas book we couldn’t have been happier! Our fourth book for the GBBO brand is a celebration of festive baking. Embellished with gold, it was a pleasure to work on such a fun, seasonal book. With beautiful imagery by Laura Edwards, imaginative prop styling by Polly Webb Wilson and delicious food styling by Lizzie Kamenetzky this book truly celebrates the season of good will!
